‍ ‍Our History

OUR DISTRICT

A district constitutes a governmental subdivision of the state and a public body corporate and politic exercising public powers (IC-14-32-5). The Howard County Soil & Water Conservation District was officially organized by landowners on October 22, 1958. The district is responsible for soil and water conservation programs within its county boundaries. The district provides a means for all interested people in the county to work together for natural resource conservation and development. It is funded through a variety of sources including county and state appropriations, money making activities, grants and private donations.
